Lesson #1:
Chapter 1: Verse 1-6
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
Woe upon a life that has no purpose
woe upon a body that lacks directions
woe upon a soul that destroys itself by following Shaitan despite being aware of its Creator!
When I read Surah Fatihah with Tafseer for the first time, I thought how perfectly do I fall under the category of الضَّالِّينَ (those who are lost and astray). The word itself sounds so ignorant. Despite being an educated human being in the sight of people, was I nothing but a loser in the sight of my Creator? I didn’t even know Him, didn’t even know what He said to me – I was a bad case of a bad listener…
So this urged and motivated me to stay consistent to read, understand and complete the book of Allaah (s.w.t.)
To at least know what my Creator was saying to me. To at least feel that I’m not ignorant and I have the knowledge that I was obligated to seek.
Now when I sat down to revise this beautiful book again with a new refreshed spirit (no wonder it starts with The Opener), I realised that I might now be falling less in the category of ad-daalleen (as I know at least what my Rabb requires of me) but perhaps more into the category of maghdoobi alaeehim الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ (those who have evoked Allaah’s anger – which is even worse). Those who didn’t act upon all the knowledge gathered. They know yet let it pass by like it was nothing…This major fear and threat looms over me, but it is also what keeps me motivated to improve myself every single day. To push myself a little harder every time. To maybe one day join the ranks of أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ (those upon whom Allaah bestowed favor – an’amta alaeehim). Those who were blessed by Allaah, not only in this world but also in the Hereafter. From Prophets to companions to righteous ones…
Perhaps if I keep trying, I can dream and hope one day to be among them… (if Allaah willed)
Aameen
NEXT: Lesson #2 – (Chapter 2 : verse 1-5)
It feels like sucha complete surah combining aqeedah, appreciation/gratitude, muslim lifestyle with a dua in the end. No wonder it was the first complete surah revealed. And no wonder that our prayer is not complete without it. We need it as a constant reminder. Multiple times a day (17 times in a day even if we just count the obligatory prayer) because it opens doors to the rest of the Qur’an. A very precise and compact step by step guide. I hope that from now on we internalise it everytime we recite it. Instead of just giving it a lip service.
I love the word Alhamdulillah. It’s like shooting two arrows from one bow. Genuinely praising and thanking Allaah at the same time.
Hmmm perhaps we could work something around this word *hint hint* :p
Qurran is the only book on earth which gives you a whole new feeling every time you read it… Surah fateha is like an introduction to islam and qurran …. Its like a promiss that you want to read this book for hadayat in your life ….. This surah builds a conection between a person and Allah .
Everytime i read this surah it gives energy and motivation for ibadat ….. No dought our namaz is incomplete without this surah
May Allaah always help us derive energy and motivation from His words.
Jazakillah khair for sharing.
Before listening to the tafseer of surat ul fatiha i actually thought i understand it pretty well but after doing the tafsir i realized i had no idea how deep and beautfiul these verses are. SubhanAllah.
One of the ayas that i personally found amazing and an ayah that ican atually relate to was the 5th ayah that says “It is you we worship and you we ask for help” So we do ask Allah for help in our worldly/religious matters but what help are we asking Allah for in this particular ayah? We are asking him to make it easy for us to worship him make us easy for us do something sincerely and solely for the sake and pleasure of Allah without seeking the pleasure of the people
SubhanAllah sincere ibdah at times can be really hard and cannot be done without the toufeeq of Allah subhana wa ta’ala and thats what Allah subhana wa ta’ala is teaching us in this ayah.
Indeed. Without knowing Arabic it’s hard to understand the deeper meaning of the verses.
May Allaah always keep us steadfast on this verse:
إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Jazakillah khair for your input
Subhanallah! What’s amazing about this surah is that Allah swt responds to our recitation each time we recite in salat, so it really displays how close, caring and affectionate he is with each and every single one of us. It’s as if Allah is welcoming us and making it easy for us to open our heart to the rest of the quran – how merciful he is!
Allaah welcoming us reminds me of the Hadith:
Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allaah says: ‘ When a slave of Mine draws near to Me a span, I draw near to him a cubit; and if he draws near to Me a cubit, I draw near to him a fathom. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.”‘.
